Adelaide Hills
Glenelg Beach
Today we sleep in and have a leisurely breakfast at our B&B before checking out some of the local beaches.
It is currently around 16°C. I have not brought enough cooler weather clothes. Much to John’s delight (NOT) I insist we stop at a nearby shopping centre so that I can pick up another pair of pants (or two), a light sweater and long sleeve T-shirt. Despite John sitting in the car, I can still feel his presence rushing me as I try things on, not to mention his phone calls checking my progress.
Mount Lofty Summit

We leave the centre and head to the Adelaide Hills. Because of its higher altitudes, it is known for world class Chardonnays, Sauvignon Blancs, Reislings and sparkling wines.
It is drizzly and gets increasingly foggy as we drive up Mount Lofty. The “spectacular” view from the summit of Mount Lofty leaves much to be desired. Maybe we’ll have better luck on the way back.
Hahndorf

We head to the German heritage town of Hahndorf. It reminds me a bit of Niagara on the Lake with a German twist. Lots of cute, boutiquey shops, many restaurants, cute murals and a winery.
We head to a German restaurant for a great meal (John has snitzel and I have
the Australian Barramundi) and some sparkling wine. The Barrundi in a wine, garlic, lemon cream sauce just melts in my mouth and the salad is divine. If not in public, I would lick my plate. I show restraint.
Petaluma Winery

We walk around the pretty town before heading to Petaluma Winery. Being a Monday, it is not busy. I do a flight of sparkling and John does a pinot noir. Yum.
Heading Back
We take the scenic drive back, stopping once again at the Mount Lofty summit lookout. The view has improved since this morning but still not ideal. Click here for a short video.
We head back into Adelaide and check into our new Airbnb.
