And Now in Switzerland
Cutest Planes Ever
We are up and off to the airport early. On the advice of hotel staff, we walk to the airport. It takes under ten minutes with sidewalks all the way.
At the airport, John spots a number of very cute planes that look like beluga whales. John explains that Airbus is headquartered in Toulouse and they use these modified planes to fly in plane parts from around the world for final assembly in Toulouse.
Our Easyjet flight to Basel, Switzerland takes 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Arrival in Switzerland
There are two exits in the Basel airport; one to France and one to Switzerland because this airport is on the border.
This time there are no extra fees for getting our rental car and soon we are on the road to Lucerne.
Spring has arrived in Switzerland. The grassy hills are vibrant green and I also see daffodils in places and trees in blossom.
Traffic is heavy due to construction. There are lots of transport trucks.
We find our Airbnb no problem. We are staying in a room at the host’s home. Our host Maureen and her partner Carl are very friendly and helpful. I love it when we can stay with a host, it is great to get local perspective. It is also nice to have access to laundry.
First Visit to Lucerne
We drive into Lucerne. It is utterly charming; so beautiful. The architecture is gorgeous. We cross the wooden Spreuerbrucke Bridge with its small chapel and paintings.
It feels like I am walking around in a fairy tale.
We go into the Jesuit Church. It is beautiful inside and out.
There are lots of different species of ducks on the Reuss River which flows into Lake Lucerne. There is a small duck with a white beak that keeps terrorizing the larger ducks.
We cross the wooden Kapellbrucke (Chapel Bridge) and head over to the lake where we do a one hour boat cruise.
The distant mountains are still snow capped. So gorgeous.
We grab a bite to eat and head back to our Airbnb…we have laundry to do.
Yes, Lucerne is a beautiful town, notably at this time of the year when it is not yet overcrowded with tourists. By the way, the Reuss river is not flowing into the lake but leaving the lake in Lucerne. If you have the time, I suggest that you visit the “Loewendenkmal”.
