Back to Nadi, Fiji
Breakfast at Mantaray Island Resort

I wake early. I want to get in one more snorkel time since we have to be out of our room at noon. Today is a travel day as we are taking the Yasawa Flyer ferry back to Nadi on the main island. I am sad to leave. The place (and improved weather) has grown on me. I spot a red throated parrot finch in the trees. So lovely.

We head to breakfast at 7:00am. I notice that anywhere I go in Fiji, the food portions are huge… really, really huge. At breakfast I ask for a very, very small (emphatically stressed, very small) portion of spinach home fries…this is what I get. Delicious but I can’t eat it all.
On our way back from breakfast I finally get to see one of the islands wild goats. Click here for a short video.
We also see the staff roasting the lovo pig for tonight’s supper.
Today’s Snorkeling
It’s time to snorkel. Today the current is too strong in our usual snorkeling spot so we head to a different part of the beach. Gardens of colourful coral are only a few feet from the shoreline. So many different fish but my highlight is finding a seahorse. This is some of the best snorkeling I have ever had.
After coming in from the water, I go to the showers. The shower I choose has no roof, only bright blue sky, a palm and flowering tree above. A bright rainbow appears to be coming out of my stomach. How enchanting. John says it sounds disturbing and asks if the rainbow was also coming out the other end.
After packing and relaxing (ok chatting to girlfriends) we head for our last lunch. I have a delicious and healthy quinoa, roast pepper, green bean and chicken salad. Sadly I could only eat a third because the portions are so huge.

Leaving Mantaray Island Resort

After lunch, the staff sing us all a goodbye song and we board our boat tender to get to deep water to meet the ferry. There are three more tender boats from other nearby resorts bobbing along with us as we see the ferry approaching in the distance.
For this trip John has upgraded us to the Captains Lounge with super comfy seats and free beverages & snacks including alcohol. Very civilized.
The three hour ride goes quickly. Buses are waiting to take us to our hotels when we disembark. It is just after sunset when John and I check into the Sailors Beach Inn. We have a beautiful ocean view. The staff are happy to inform us that being a Friday night they have a live band…as it apparently does every other hotel on this beach strip; all trying to
outplay the hotel beside them. This is quite a shock to the system after the mellow vibes of the islands. Thank goodness I brought a few pairs of earplugs.
