Boating Around Paraty
Boarding Netuno II
It is a gorgeous, hot morning as we head to the dock for a cruise along the coast. Our boat, the Netuno II, is at the absolute end of the dock.
We sit at a table on the top deck and watch the mountains and islands. They remind me a bit of Ha Long Bay in Vietnam.
Gathering with Fish
At the first stop for some swimming I attempt to gracefully enter the water from the boat but fall backwards off the ladder into the water shouting “Oh sh*t”. The Brazilian passengers who were watching are all chuckling repeating “Oh sh*t” to each other in English. The water is warm. I float around on my noodle and am surrounded by fish because they are throwing food into the water. The fish are mostly black, grey and white with a bit of yellow on their backs.
Getting out of the water was an even less graceful endeavour than getting in. Fortunately some young guy was there to hoist me out, I have no idea where John was in my time of need.
Going to Shore
Next we stop at a beach and take a dingy to shore. Jungle surrounds the beach.
We spot a small but brightly coloured black, green and blue bird with a very long pointed beak in the trees. It sits there long enough for us to get a picture…however, you may need to magnify the pic to really see this guy well.
Back on the boat, we have lunch. Graham, John and I stay on the boat at the next beach stop, just chatting, enjoying the scenery and watching the frigate birds and little green parrots in the distance.
Storm Clouds in the Distance
Heading back to Paraty, we can see that it is raining in the distance…but the rain stays away. By the time we get back to the pousada, we are able to hang out in the sun in the courtyard by the pool. Once again we hang here until after dark.
