Bora Bora to Tahiti

Bora Bora seen from the airport motu

Final Morning in Bora Bora

John, Kimberly and Desiree

Three chickens on the grassWe have visitors while eating breakfast this morning. Three chickens come clucking and poking around the yard.

Desiree (our host at Lady Bora Bora) says that she will take us to Viatape at 11:30am to catch the 12:00pm Air Tahiti catamaran to Bora Bora Airport which is on a nearby motu (reef island). We leisurely pack and relax in our beautiful setting until it is time to go.

We hear cheerful singing and music and realize that it must be coming from a Sunday morning church service.

It is sad to say goodbye to Desiree who is one of the best Airbnb hosts that we have ever stayed with

Catamaran to the Airport

Airport Catamaran

John on boat leaving Bora BoraThe catamaran transfer is about a 15 minutes journey to the airport. It is a gorgeous ride and feels like we are on a boat cruise. We pass the home that Marlon Brando stayed in when he lived in Bora Bora.

Flight to Tahiti

the plane with palm trees and turquoise water in the background
Bora Bora as seen from the planeEven the scenery around the airport is gorgeous. CNN has it listed in the top ten prettiest runways in the world.

Our flight is delayed about 45 minutes. The airport is open air without air conditioning.

The flight is also gorgeous with so many great views from the air of Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti.

We get through the Tahiti Airport quickly (with all our luggage this time) and pickup our rental car.

Mahana Park Beach

Kimberly Getting ready to snorkel in the waterOur Airbnb is about 20 minutes from the airport and a short walk from Vaiva Beach, Tahiti’s best beach.

The Airbnb is very cute. Lovely decor with our own outdoor kitchen, patio and use of the family’s pool.

We quickly change and walk to the closest beach to our Airbnb – Mahana Beach. I go snorkeling and cut my foot on coral. Note to self: next time do not leave the water shoes when cutting down on luggage.

Vaiava Beach

John and the Tahiti Sunset

Moorea in the distance at duskWe then walk 10 minutes to Vaiava Beach where we have a delicious smoked salmon and smoked tuna salad at the beach food truck. As John says, the French really know how to do food.

Vaiava Beach is lovely with lots of families enjoying the weekend.

We can see Moorea’s silhouette in the distance. The sun glows brightly as it sinks into the ocean.
