Exploring Coron

Morning at Skylodge Resort

John relaxing on the outdoor sofa at Skylodge Resort

Kimberly with Angel wings in CoronWe have a relaxed morning sitting in the open air lounge area of the resort. It is hot…really, really hot so we are enjoying the breeze and the gorgeous view up here.

We check the resort out and of course I have to try the Angel wings.

Coron Town

Vegetable stalls in the Coron Public Market
Houses and boats on a canalAt 1:00pm we take the shuttle into town. We walk around checking out the market and waterways where people live and keep their boats.

Coron traffic is interesting to watch. Many of the tricycles have names on them. One I see is called Moron, another is Queen John with one of the named tricyclesElizabeth and then there is the one in the picture.

And the traffic is crazy. Lots of motorcycles, tricycles, vans, cars and no street lights. Click here for a short video.

We head to a cute restaurant tucked away from the noisy main street called Gavin’s where we have lunch and run into Alfie from our El Nido cruise.

Fish for sale at the Coron Public MarketI then head to Lou Massage Spa for a glorious massage by Jaizee. Wow, that man has magic hands.

Mount Tapyas

Kimberly and John on top of Mount Tapyas
John on top of Mount TapyasJohn and I meet after my massage to climb 752 steps (but who’s counting) to the top of Mount Tapyas to watch the sunset. Good thing I’m all loose from my massage. But I definitely need to work on my cardio when I get back.

The pain is worth the prize. The Sunset from the top of Mount Tapyasview is amazing. The viewpoint overlooks Coron and the surrounding islands. We can see in so many directions. Click here for a short video of the view from the top.

The 752 steps down is much easier to manage.

Sunset over Coron

Evening at Hop Hostel

Some of the Sea Quest Group at Hop HostelWe head to the rooftop bar at Hop Hostel where the remainder of our boat tour group has arranged to meet up through WhatsApp. All the steps up to the roof bar feels like we are walking up Mount Tapyas again.

Quite a few of the group are there. After a drink, our German friends and us head down to the main floor for a really good meal. The younger crew continue with drinks upstairs. We hear on WhatsApp that their night ended late with pole dancing and new tattoos. Ahhhh… to be young again!
