Fitzroy Island
Off to the Ferry Terminal

We head to the ferry terminal in Cairns by way of The Esplanade. The tide is partially out and the pelicans are standing on the mudflats at the same place they had been floating last night.
We are running short of our ginger anti-nausea pills. Fortunately we can easily buy more.
I’m glad I take the ginger pills because the 45 minute trip is rocky. Even with the pill my stomach feels a bit off
Snorkeling by the White Rock

Upon arriving on the island we put on our wet suits and head to an area called White Rock where turtles hang out. It’s hard getting into the water because it is shallow quite a ways out. Once in, I see a few fish but the water is murky because of the rains over the last few days.
We next head to our glass bottom boat tour where we don’t see anything for the same reason.
We head to lunch at Foxy’s Restaurant. The vibe is nice as is the view. The lunch is huge and we take some of it back with us.
Nudey Beach
With an hour and a half left before our boat leaves we start walking to Nudey Beach. “Nudey” refers to a type of coral, not to a type of sunbather, much to John’s disappointment. We are dragging our stuff with us. We get to part with uneven rocky stairs and I suggest John go on and I head back to the restaurant.
John reports the beach as being very picturesque and confirms a complete absence of nudeys on the beach.
Wild Cockatoo
The walk back is through the rainforest. Suddenly a wild cockatoo lands in front of me and starts scrounging on the ground. I startle him when I pull out my phone and he flies up to a tree. He checks me out for awhile before flying off.
Return to Cairns
On the return ride I take my nausea pill but still feel a bit sea sick. Fortunately I fall asleep.
Back in Cairns only some of the pelicans are hanging out in the usual spot. The rest are dispersed across the waterfront.
We spend the evening doing laundry and packing for tomorrow morning’s 6:00am flight to Brisbane and then on to Uluru (Ayers Rock).
