In and Around Adelaide
Adelaide Botanic Gardens

John is feeling a bit better when we wake up. He rests while I do laundry and have a relaxing morning. It is bright and sunny out. I dress in layers with the warmer clothes I purchased the other day.
We drive to a car park near the Adelaide Botanical
Gardens. The Gardens are free to enter and totally divine.
We see a classical statue reproduction of a naked lady holding a sheet in front of her. John comments, “For someone who just got out of the shower, she sure has a lot of bird poop on her.”
There are signs warning about birds swooping and diving on people. And more signs about birds coming to the tables and stealing food and other articles.

Cafe by the Pond

The weather heats up and I end up stripping off two layers. We head to the garden cafe where we have front row seats in front of the pond. Birds are everywhere and turtles are in the pond. The air is filled with giant dragonflies flitting here and there. It is utterly enchanting.
Birds and Animals in the Gardens

We continue exploring the gardens and their pavilions. The rose gardens are so fragrant. The sun beams down and I strip down to my tank top. Sulphur Crested cockatoos fly through the air.
John and I sit on a grassy incline by a stream. John points out a lizard hanging out near my foot. Upon being noticed, he slithers down to some nearby rocks. We later learn that it is a Blue Tongued skink.
I spot a small group of Rosella parrots foraging in the nearby grass. Click here for a short video.
Institute of Australian Wine

We next head to the Institute of Australian Wine which was very interesting. The museum part is small but they are also a wine education centre and also a venue for events.
University of Adelaide

Nearby is the University of Adelaide campus. It is such a beautiful campus with it’s old buildings and statues.
Art Gallery of South Australia
We end our day at the Art Gallery of South Australia which is filled with a variety of art from Aboriginal to European. There is even a moving film portrait of Lady Gaga dressed as a famous painting. The pieces are a real eclectic mix.
It’s time to head back to our Airbnb and pack for our flight to Fiji tomorrow. Fortunately the flight is in the early afternoon so we can have a leisurely morning.
