Saturday in Belfast
Off to Belfast
It is raining this morning. We had a lovely stay with our Airbnb and hosts Ann and Reg in Bushmills near the Giants Causeway.
Today we head to Belfast. The sun comes out as we arrive in the city. Our first stop is Titanic Belfast, an impressive building that houses s museum dedicated to the fateful ship.
Titanic Belfast Museum
The museum is really well-done, explaining everything from the times, the ship building industry in Belfast, the people, how the ship looked, the sinking, the lives lost and exploring the wreckage.
We also go onto the Nomadic which was Titanics smaller sister ship that was used for tenders.
I found this museum poignant. It really went into the lives of the people. I found myself close to tears at times. So many lives lost.
This museum alone is worth the trip to Belfast.
Walking Tour
We next drive into the downtown where we park the car and run to our 2:30pm Yellow Umbrella walking tour that starts at city hall. I really learn a lot on this tour. Unfortunately it starts to pour and I mean really pour. John and I stay with the tour until the end.
Pubbing in Belfast
We move our car and check into the Ramada (not my normal choice of accommodations but not a lot of Airbnbs in downtown Belfast). We have some tea, dry off a bit before heading out to supper at a recommended pub.
The rain stops and we head out for supper at Fibber Magee’s before checking out some other pubs including The Crown Saloon. We pass a number of old pubs before heading to the Duke of York.
People of all ages are really dressed up for Halloween. I especially enjoyed meeting up with Winifred Sanderson from my favourite Halloween movie, Hocus Pocus.
