A Visit with Rocky and Back to Canada
Along the Waterworks Trail
Our clothes from last night are still wet. We pack them into separate bags, pack the car and head to the Philadelphia Art Museum.
The day is beautifully sunny, a few big puddles the only sign of last nights rain. We walk along the waterfront trail to boathouse row and then back along the waterworks trail to the back of the museum.
Hello Rocky
Of course we pay our regards to Rocky at his famous statue.
The museum steps are famous as being the ones Rocky runs up in two of his movies. I need to use a ladies room so I strategically decide not to attempt running up the stairs.
Philadelphia Museum of Art
We had planned to visit the museum on Tuesday, only to find that it and numerous other museums are closed on Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. This morning was the only time we could visit before we left. The Barnes was another museum that was a priority to see as was the Mutter Museum for John but alas, they were also closed. Something new to see the next time we come to Philly.
The Philadelphia Museum of Art has three floors filled with treasures. Unfortunately John and I are limited to 1 1/2 hours so we split up in order for us both to see our top priorities. My favourites are the impressionist rooms and John’s the medieval section.
A large, golden statue of the roman goddess, Diana, presides over the grand, main staircase.
Time moves too quickly and we’ve barely scratched the surface. We leave for home at 11:30am.
I love Philadelphia. It is tied with Boston as my favourite large US city.
