Last Few Days in Varadero

Varadero Day 6

I book supper at the restaurant before breakfast. Even booking this early, I can only get a reservation for 8;30pm. After our buffet breakfast, John and Cameron head to the beach and Graham and I catch the Varadero double decker Beach Bus. For 600 pesos its a hop on hop off bus that runs the whole length of Varadero.

We first stop in the arts and crafts market.

the I love Varadero signWe then wait and wait for the bus, which is supposed to run every half hour, but give up and walk back to our hotel for lunch.

After lunch we wait for well over 30 minutes for the hop on hop off bus going in the other direction with a large group of other tourists. I love watching the old 1950, 1940 and 120s cars go by. I even see a car from 1905. Awesome.

We give up on waiting for the bus. Graham and I start walking. I see a bus coming so I flag it down and we get on. It is not the hop on hop off bus but the local’s bus. We ride for a short bit and get off and walk for awhile, passing and old tower which is now a restaurant.

Shortly down the road, we find a bus stop for the hop on, hop off bus and sit and wait. Some other confused tourists join us. Miraculously the bus shows up and we do the rest of the route.

There really isn’t a lot to see, mostly different resorts and a small Dolphin show place.

when we return to the resort, we meet up with John and Cameron on then beach and then hang out playing cards in the bar until our 8:30 supper reservations.

After supper, the resort has a good Cuban dance show and John and after watching it, John and I check out the live rock cover band at the Beatles Bar (that we hear in our room every night until midnight). It is a really happening place with lots of people dancing.

Varadero-Day 7

Cameron standing at the resort with the beach in the backgroundIts a beach day. Enough said.

In the evening it starts to pore. We head across the street to the cigar store and rum shop and make some purchases. The cigars are a lot more than I thought they would be.

We hang out in the bar area playing cards. A Cuban band plays and people start dancing.

Supper is at the Cuban Restaurant. The food is almost the same as the International restaurant with just a few changes.

We watch the water ballet show at the pool before heading back to our room.

Varadero to Toronto- day 8

We are at the breakfast bar at 7am and waiting for our airport transfer by 7:45.
The flight is an hour late.
We land in Toronto at 3:30 but have to wait almost two hours for our luggage because they put the luggage of four planes that landed after us on the belts first. ???!!!???

We are now home safe and sound.
