Last Full Day in Nicaragua

Sunset with a pelican diving in the water

Off to Playa Hermosa

A white sandy beach with a lounge chair

A stretch of beach with grass shacks and lounge chairsThe first sound I hear upon waking is the roar of distant howler monkeys. It is sunny but very windy, which is probably a good thing seeing as the weather forecast is supposed to go up to 40 Celsius. I feel perfectly comfortable in the shade with the wind.

We booked a taxi to come and A long shallow shorelinepick us up at 9:30am to take us to Hermosa Beach. It would have been a lot less to take a shuttle but then you would have to go from 11:30am and returning to San Juan del Sur at 5:15pm. We choose the taxi so that we can still spend half a day at the villa.

It is a 35 minute drive (much of it Kimberly on a hammock at the beachon unpaved roads) to Playa Hermosa. The beach is a long stretch of soft white sand with a thatched covered bar and restaurant, bathrooms, change rooms and numerous shady lounging areas, each with tables, chairs and two hammocks. There is also a shack where you can organize surf lessons. The beach is remote and minimally Bright red crab with a black topdeveloped. Click here for a video.

We discover a bright red crab crawling under our table.

Afternoon and Evening in San Juan del Sur

View of the ocean from Villa Arcadia

The winds are very high and we are covered in a light, gritty, dusting of sand; even in our ears. We stay for 2.5 hours and then cab it back to Villa Arcadia. We spend the rest of the afternoon hanging out at the villa. We head into town for an early supper at Wrap and Roll where I had an Sunset with a diving pelican and the Christ of Mercy statue on a hillamazing crispy fish salad. We end the day by watching the pelicans dive in the water at sunset.
